4 Steps For Building A Productive Start-up Core Team

The strength of a start-up lies heavily on the team behind it. According to data from Harvard Business Review, 60% of new ventures fail due to problems with the team. This is of no surprise because the team makes everything work, everything often grinds to a halt when there is a problem.

Also, the experience of members doesn’t necessarily translate to a successful business, they need passion and vision to move the company forward, and with a startup, there is a need for extra. Here are some steps to help in building your dream startup team;

1. Identify your startup’s needs As your startup grows, so do the responsibilities, during this time, it is advisable to employ more hands to build the dream, but before that, the needs of the company should be identified. What areas are lagging behind, how to improve setting areas and how this can be effectively carried out.

2. Define roles and responsibilities Having identified the needs of the startup, next up is defining the roles, drawing KPIs, penning down the right skills and abilities that fit.

3. Go Scouting Find people who are smarter than you, especially in their area of specialization. Beyond putting out vacancy notifications, attend networking events in the industry you are looking to recruit from, seek recommendations and more.

4. Identify talents if you get someone who is suitable for the role, has the necessary qualifications, experience, passion and drive, reach out to them, sell the companies vision to them and you have a chance of hiring them.
